the Dr. Sol J. Barer Award to The Medicines Company CEO Clive Meanwell, M.D., Ph.D. and the 2016 Innovator Awards for New Drug and Device Approvals
TRENTON, NJ (December 16, 2015) – Considered the kickoff event of the year for the life sciences industry, BioNJ’s 23rd Annual Gateway Gala, Dinner Meeting & Innovation Celebration is scheduled for February 4, 2016 at the Hilton East Brunswick. Saluting New Jersey’s medical innovation, the inspirational evening will include a Keynote by the Honorable Patrick Kennedy, the presentation of the ninth annual Dr. Sol J. Barer Award for Vision, Innovation and Leadership to Clive Meanwell, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and CEO of The Medicines Company and the much anticipated Innovator Awards honoring companies with a footprint in New Jersey that have received a U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in 2015.

Max Schill “Magic Max”, a precious 7-year old Rasopathies Patient who lobbied Congress for the 21st Century Cures and recently received the Abbey Award for Federal Level Advocacy at the 2015 RareVoice Awards Gala, will present the Innovator Awards. Max represents what it’s all about – the Patient.”
During his Keynote presentation, the Honorable Patrick Kennedy will speak about his recently released book, A Common Struggle, the story of mental health and addiction through the lens of his personal narrative.
Named for Sol J. Barer, Ph.D., Founder and former Chairman and CEO of Celgene Corporation,Dr. Sol J. Barer Award for Vision, Innovation and Leadership recognizes outstanding research and business leaders who have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of the biosciences industry in New Jersey and throughout the world.
“We are thrilled to name Dr. Clive Meanwell, CEO of The Medicines Company as this year’s recipient,” said Hart. “This year alone, The Medicines Company has had four EU approvals (Kengrexal, Orbactiv, Raplixa and lonsys) and three U.S. approvals (lonsys, Kengrexal and Raplixa).” Dr. Stuart Peltz, BioNJ Chairman of the Board, CEO of PTC Therapeutics and the 2014 Dr. Sol J. Barer Award Recipient, will present the award to Dr. Meanwell.
