BioNJ Headlines – April 2012

BioNJ’s 2012 Annual Meeting Video Highlights Governor Chris Christie, Roka’s Paul Thomas, and BIO’s Jim Greenwood

Moved by the stirring remarks of our special guest speaker, Governor Chris Christie, and breaking all attendance records with more than 700 participants, BioNJ’s 2012 Annual Dinner Meeting, Awards Program and Networking Event was truly a night to remember.

We are pleased to offer a brief video that attempts to capture some of the excitement and camaraderie of the evening by featuring excerpts of Governor Christie’s speech and remarks from the 2012 recipient of the Dr. Sol J. Barer Award for Vision, Innovation, and Leadership, Roka Bioscience Founder and President Paul Thomas, and Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) President and CEO Jim Greenwood. Please click here to view the video.

We are grateful to the many participants who took time from their schedules to join their colleagues at our Annual Meeting. It is our great honor and pleasure to serve New Jersey’s thriving biotechnology community at the Annual Meeting and every day thereafter.

We look forward to seeing you at the many other exciting and insightful Forums and Briefings that are planned in 2012 — including our Third Annual International BioPartnering Conference on May 10-11 in Princeton — and, of course, at the 2013 Annual Meeting.

Customized Training Grant Awarded

BioNJ and the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce & Economic Development (NJCCC) are pleased to announce the award of another Customized Training Grant by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant continues a program that enables New Jersey life sciences companies to strengthen their operations and stay ahead of the competition by taking advantage of free, customized educational and training programs for their employees.

In the past four years, a total of 394 customized training classes designed to help employees keep up with the latest developments in business practices were delivered to more than 5,000 employees through previous customized training grants.

BioNJ and the NJCCC are grateful to Governor Chris Christie, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, and NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Harold Wirths for their continued support of this important program.

Additional information on course offerings and how to apply for the training program will be announced in the near future.

For additional information, please email Linda Pontell.

Help Us Honor BioNJ Member Companies on the 5th NewX2 BioCruise

The fifth sailing of the always-popular NewX2 BioCruise will take place on Wednesday, June 6, and we are asking you to help us mark the fifth anniversary in grand style as we recognize a Core Member and an Associate Member for their contributions to New Jersey’s dynamic biotechnology industry.

We will be sending out more information on the cruise in the near future, but in the meantime:

  • Can you think of a BioNJ Core Member Company and/or an Associate Member Company that goes above and beyond to aid New Jersey’s biotechnology industry?
  • Do they do a great job of staying involved with both the industry and BioNJ?

Well, here is a chance for them to be recognized for their outstanding service and commitment.

BioNJ will present its Member Company Service Awards during the NewX2 BioCruise on the Hudson. Any company or consultancy qualifies if it:

  • Has a New Jersey office location and is a Member of BioNJ
  • Has consistently demonstrated leadership and involvement with BioNJ and in advancing the biotechnology industry in New Jersey.

You can nominate one company in the Core Member Category and one company in the Associate Member category. For each nomination, please provide separate documents describing in 100 words or less why you think your nominee qualifies for the BioNJ 2012 Member Company Service Award.

Nominations must be submitted to BioNJ via email by close of business on Friday, May 18. Please use “BioNJ Member Award” in the subject line.

Participate in BioNJ’s Purchasing Program Survey

Through BioNJ, Members can take advantage of the collective buying power their membership in BioNJ creates by participating in the BioNJ Purchasing Program, which provides discounts to Members for their purchases of lab supplies, office supplies, liability and other insurances, payrolling, and a variety of other services.

For example, in 2011, our members saved over $1.25M on lab supplies alone.

We are in the process of expanding our Purchasing Program offering to include other vendors and are seeking your input. We ask that you please take a moment and click on the link below to complete and submit the brief survey.

Thank you for your time.
