Emerging Company in the Spotlight sponsored by JFK Communications

BioNJ is pleased to shine the spotlight on one of our Innovation Members each month featuring their progress and work on behalf of Patients and their impact on the New Jersey life sciences ecosystem. This month’s Emerging Company in the Spotlight is Ferring Pharmaceuticals.

So many of our Members are making a dramatic impact on our State’s innovation ecosystem. We celebrate you! Ferring Pharmaceuticals is one such company.

Ferring Pharmaceuticals, founded in 1950, is a globally recognized, research-driven biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Saint-Prex, Switzerland, with operating subsidiaries in nearly 60 countries including research and development facilities in Denmark, Israel, Switzerland, China, India, Japan, Scotland and the U.S. With 5,000 employees worldwide and nearly 800 in the U.S., Ferring opened its U.S. Operations Center on a 25-acre campus in Parsippany, N.J. in 2014. This state-of-the-art campus currently employs 300 people and is expected to grow.

Ferring is dedicated to developing and marketing innovative specialized treatments for reproductive health, urology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, women’s health and orthopaedics.

Ferring is a strong corporate citizen in New Jersey and a highly active advocate for promoting economic growth in the State. Ferring has been an active member of BioNJ since 2013 and participates on the Board of Choose New Jersey, a nonprofit initiative that encourages State economic growth. In 2015, Ferring further demonstrated the company’s commitment to manufacturing in New Jersey by purchasing a 22-acre plot adjacent to its main campus. In addition to its New Jersey operations, scientists at the Ferring Research Institute in San Diego, California are focused on the development of first-in-class therapeutic peptides and proteins.

Ferring is also a committed supporter of military veterans through a number of organizations and programs. Not only does Ferring support Community Hope, a New Jersey nonprofit dedicated to house at-risk military veterans, but the company has also established the Ferring Initiative for Veterans Employment (FIVE), an operation designed to source, hire and mentor military veterans seeking career opportunities in the civilian workplace. Furthermore, Ferring has established the “Living the Philosophy” program, which allows employees to volunteer in their local communities for one day per quarter with a key focus on housing for the poor or homeless.

In partnership with Walgreen’s Pharmacies/Mandell’s Pharmacy, Ferring has developed a program for women of reproductive age who have recently been diagnosed with cancer. The Heartbeat Program provides free access to certain fertility medications and educational resources to women who wish to safeguard their fertility prior to the start of their cancer treatment. So far, it has aided families by giving away over $15 million in resources. In 2014 and 2015, Ferring was proudly voted “Best Adoption Friendly Workplace” by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

“At Ferring our focus is on making a difference in people’s health and quality of life,” says Aaron Graff, Chief Executive Officer of Ferring Holding U.S. “We are proud to be active members of the New Jersey ecosystem and we are committed to cultivating a workplace that allows employees to give back to the community.” For more information about Ferring Pharmaceuticals, please visit www.ferringusa.com.
