High out-of-pocket costs are increasingly impacting Patients, with three in four adults reporting being very or somewhat worried about being able to afford the cost of health care services for themselves and their families. In the meantime, health insurance companies have begun to increasingly include “copay accumulator adjustment programs” or “copay accumulators” in their plans, which restrict payments made with a copay assistance program from contributing to a Patient’s cost-sharing requirements.

Surprise bills and high health care costs from copay accumulators can increase treatment nonadherence, leading to worse health outcomes, higher costs for Patients and the health care system, and increased strain on the health care system.
